Production of extremely high specification aeronautical parts can require vacuum furnace heat treatment, using very dry argon. NADCAP standards also specify that welding shield gas should be tested at the torch head to ensure dryness.

Alternators are cooled using hydrogen, which has a high heat capacity and low viscosity. These properties, and the efficiency of the generator, are reduced by the presence of moisture. Moisture adsorbed on the surface of plastic pellets that feed injection moulders can affect the surface finish, colour and opacity of the end product. Dry air is circulated through the pellets to ensure they are dry.

SF6 Circuit Breakers

SF6 is used for insulation and arc quenching in circuit breakers. Excess moisture promotes arcing which decomposes SF6 into corrosive products, potentially taking out the switch out of service and interrupting the power to the distribution network. Current regulations forbid venting SF6 to atmosphere. Using the SADPmini2 in conjuction with our Gas Collection & Transfer Unit (GCTU) is ideal for sample analysis before returning to the switch.
